The AROGI Association serves as a pillar of social cohesion; through its awareness-raising initiatives, it helps change attitudes, combating prejudice, and promoting a more inclusive and accessible society throughout the Cyclades archipelago. To carry out these activities on the outlying islands, the working group must travel and conduct on-site visits. AROGI has been operating for years exclusively with volunteers, mainly members of the Board of Directors. It aims to promote social inclusion, independence, and quality of life for people with visual impairments. It seeks to raise awareness in local communities, provide educational sessions in schools at all levels across the islands, and empower its members. It organizes educational seminars on mobility and orientation using the white cane, as well as on new assistive technologies (screen-reading software, digital skills training, and independence in daily life). Public awareness initiatives through the organization of exhibitions, concerts, public lectures, radio/TV programs, museum visits, organizing games, such as blindfold chess, with the participation of chess clubs from Syros and Rhodes. The goal is to combat prejudice and promote accessibility and social cohesion.
