In Syros, the capital of the Cyclades, on the initiative of composer Stavros Xarchakos—who also serves as the organization’s president—along with many supporters, friends, sponsors, and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, the non-profit association EN CHORDIS & ORGANOIS {Markos’ Great School} was founded in 2017.
A non-profit association dedicated to the preservation, safeguarding, and promotion of folk and rebetiko music through the teaching of folk musical instruments, the study of sound through sound engineering - Music Technology, as well as teaching Visual Arts – Painting – Drawing, with the goal of encouraging children, teenagers, and adults to develop their artistic skills. They become familiar with significant works in the history of art by combining theory and practice—while simultaneously preparing for admission to higher education (music universities / schools of architecture) .
To achieve these goals, EN CHORDES & INSTRUMENTS {Markos’ Great School} organizes and implements modular activities and teaching methods tailored to its respective objectives
