The Cyclades Orchestra (CYOR) was founded in late 2010 by Nikos Kypourgos and a group of 25 musicians and singers living on Syros. To date, it has given dozens of concerts in Syros, the Cyclades, and many cities across Greece.
It has collaborated with many prominent artists, including Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Savina Yannatou, Doros Dimosthenous, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Manolis Mitsias, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Maria Farantouri, and Orpheas Peridis.
It has performed at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the Athens Concert Hall, and has collaborated with the Athens Festival, the National Theater of Northern Greece, the Philippi Festival, the Andros Festival, as well as with numerous cultural organizations in Athens and throughout the region.
Among the statutory objectives of the Cyclades Orchestra are the identification, development, and promotion of children and young people with a talent and particular gifts for music, as well as the creation of a choir and musical ensembles for their participation in events. In this context, the Cyclades Children’s and Youth Choir has been operating within the Cyclades Orchestra since 2012, aiming to provide choral training and musical education through group singing. The choir, a hub of creativity and mental and spiritual enrichment, serves as a valuable tool in helping children develop a positive attitude and love for music, as well as a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
