Paros

Year of establishment: 1976

The "Archilochos" Cultural Association was founded in 1976 on Paros and is one of the island’s oldest and most active cultural organizations. It carries out a wide range of activities in the fields of culture, the arts, and environmental awareness.

It runs groups such as the Film Club, the Choir, the Theater Group, the Environmental Group, the Open Forum, the Photography Group, the Hiking Group, and the Chess Group for adults and children, while annual events such as a Christmas bazaar and exhibitions are organized.

Significant milestones in its history included the presentation of the works “Axion Esti” and “Pneumatiko Emvatirio” by Mikis Theodorakis in 1983–1984, attended by the composer, as well as the organization of the first Cyclades Cultural Conference (1983). In 2024, it was honored with the pan-European Europa Nostra “Kostas Karras” Award for its contribution to the protection of public spaces and the island environment.

The Association has made a decisive contribution to the cultural development of Paros, supporting the creation of institutions such as the Municipal School of Music and organizing international conferences on the island’s history and culture.
In collaboration with the Archaeological Institute of Paros and the Cyclades, it has organized international scientific conferences, including “Paria Lithos” (1998) and a series of six international conferences (1997–2024) on the ancient culture of Paros.
