The Ano Syros Cultural Association was founded in 1979 and for decades
has been actively engaged in cultural and social initiatives, relying primarily on
the trust and support of the Greek diaspora and friends of culture.
Among its most significant activities are the musical evenings of the
full moon in Ano Syros, the grand Tsipouro Nights at the Spring of Saint
Athanasios attended by thousands of people, as well as the established
events for International Women’s Day and International Father’s Day
at the historic ApolloThe music and poetry groups
dedicated to the poets C.P. Cavafy, Nikos Gatsos, and Nikos Kavvadias, which
for about 20 years have been presenting performances of
high artistic quality in Greece and abroad, promoting Greek poetry and cultural
heritage. These groups have performed at major venues and international
cultural centers, such as Harvard, the University of Helsinki, the
of Athens and Thessaloniki, Alexandria, New York, Boston,
Istanbul, and many other cities in Greece and abroad.

The musical theater production “C.P. Cavafy – From the Outside and in Song” by the
Kavafis, conceived and directed by Babis Koulouras, is considered one of the
most significant artistic interpretations of the work of the great Alexandrian poet
and has been performed more than 100 times internationally. The production features
renowned musicians and performers, primarily members of Nikos Kypourgos’
Cyclades Orchestra.

The Association and its president, Babis Koulouras, have been honored with numerous
distinctions and awards from organizations in Greece and abroad, including
the Municipality of Syros–Ermoupoli, UNESCO, Rotary International, Doctors of the World,
Greek diaspora organizations, and cultural institutions. The Association’s overall trajectory and contributions
serve as a significant example of cultural outreach and
the preservation of Greek cultural identity internationally.
