Organization profile

Naxos and Small Cyclades
Year of establishment: 1981
The Cultural Association of Tragia, based in Chalki, Naxos, is one of the most active organizations dedicated to preserving local heritage and culture in the island’s central basin. Since 1981, it has been systematically working to highlight the history of Tragia, which dates back to antiquity and reached its peak during the Byzantine period, by organizing academic conferences in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades, university professors, historians, and scholars. Special emphasis is placed each summer on the Byzantine church of Agios Georgios Diasoritis (11th century), which is opened to visitors under the responsibility of the Tragia Association. Our Association has been the official organizer of the European Music Festival in Naxos for over 10 consecutive years (since 2012). It also organizes the Music Festival in Chalki every late August, while throughout the year it runs workshops in music, theater, ceramics, and more for children and adults. In 2026, a collaboration began with cultural organizations in Paros and Santorini for "Aigaiogrammo," a series of concerts held during the winter on the three islands.
