ACTIONS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE CIVIL PROTECTION POLICY OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF KOS

The Volunteer Team of the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Kos organized a preparedness exercise for the preventive, organized evacuation of citizens due to an ongoing forest fire in the settlements of Lagoudi–Zia–Asfendios, named "ASPIDA 2023" . On June 8, 2024, a fire broke out in Lofaki, Kos, in a remote area, requiring the use of aerial resources.
Also, a large fire in terms of area and speed on July 1, 2024, came very close to Kardamena, where approximately 12,000 residents and visitors were successfully evacuated to safe shelters as a precautionary measure.

The following have been conducted: 1. First aid seminars 2. A seminar on psychological & social support for relatives and victims of natural disasters, as well as specialized self-defense seminars for its members, with the aim of continuously improving the skills of volunteers who are on the front lines every day serving society and citizens. The process for the procurement, installation, and operation of thermal cameras and their accessories is currently underway, which will cover two-thirds of the island’s forested areas.
Our goal, as an agency, includes the planning and deployment of personnel and available equipment to address emergencies.
It also includes the preparation and conduct of readiness exercises, the assessment of specific risks, the formulation of plans, and the documentation of procedures for the protection and rescue of citizens.
