The Association of Peloponnesians of Syros “O Geros tou Moria” was founded in 1996 with the aim of strengthening ties among its members—residents of Syros who hail from the Peloponnese—preserving and promoting Peloponnesian customs, and organizing cultural events.
Since its founding, the Association has made significant contributions to all cultural and social events on Syros.
One such event is the traditional dance festival, which began as an initiative of the Association in 2006 and has since become an institution.
• Since 2016, it has established its own dance troupe and has successfully represented the Association in various parts of Greece.
• Over time, and in response to the needs of society, it has developed numerous social initiatives, such as:
• Collecting and sending essential supplies to our fellow citizens affected by fires and earthquakes, as well as to refugees.
• Providing grants to other local associations and foundations in Syros that carry out significant social work.
• Finally, since 2020, the Association has been a member of the Panhellenic Federation of Cultural Associations of the Peloponnese, in whose founding it played a leading role.
