Kythnos

Year of establishment: 1901

The Kythnos Association remains the place where we reconnect with our homeland, our fellow countrymen, our memories, and each of our personal histories.
It has been in existence for 125 years and has played a significant role in maintaining ties among its members as well as within the broader community of Kythnia.
Today, amidst unique circumstances, it is called upon to continue its work—a multifaceted endeavor. The Kythnos Association has a duty to embrace the younger generations, helping to forge close ties with them. It also continues to support and contribute to the cultural and folkloric promotion of Kythnos, through collaborations with local organizations, to stimulate broader interest not only among locals but also among all those who love the island and reside there for long or short periods of time, for the social and cultural development of our unique homeland, the preservation of our cultural and historical heritage, as well as the maintenance of its authentic character. To this end, it publishes a calendar, organizes art exhibitions (Edafi Iasis, Stories of Idols), holds lectures, produces documentaries, and showcases the history and folklore of the island of Kythnos; it establishes open-air libraries, carries out environmental protection initiatives, and revives and promotes the island’s folk customs (Lazani, Kounias, etc.).
