Research visit of the Social Inclusion Observatory to the Municipality of Thira

During its research visit to the Municipality of Thira, the Observatory conducted interviews with the staff of the Community Center as well as with the Deputy Head of the Municipality’s Nursery Schools. Additionally, it visited the Thira Poorhouse and spoke with the managers of the facility.

Initially, among other topics, the discussion with the staff of the Community Center focused on the professional rehabilitation of young people and the potential challenges they face. Additionally, an increase in requests for counseling support was highlighted, along with the lack of organized assistance for serious cases.

Regarding the Municipality’s nursery schools, their operation, goals, and needs were discussed. On their part, the managers of the Poorhouse emphasized the importance of having such a social facility for the island’s residents, as well as their intention to transform it into an Elderly Care Unit.

Finally, the Observatory would like to thank the Municipality of Thira for its cooperation and contribution to the research, as well as all the participants.
