On Tuesday, 09/09/2025, the Social Inclusion Observatory visited the Municipality of Leipsoi and conducted interviews with the Mayor, Mr. Fotios Maggos, and the municipal administrative staff: Ms. Efharis Maggo, Mr. Pantelis Loulas, Mr. Iosif Vavoulas, and Mr. Georgios Laountos.
Reference was made to young people who work in tourism during the summer season and either move to a large city in the winter or primarily engage in construction and agricultural work.
There are sports facilities on the island, and a daycare center will open in the near future. Housing is an issue on the island, and this year the island’s doctors were accommodated in the facilities of the nursery school.
Significant environmental projects have also been carried out, such as the opening of trails, installation of photovoltaic systems for desalination, modernization of the wastewater treatment plant, and tree planting.
Finally, the municipality’s efforts to find housing for teachers and doctors who come to work on the island were highlighted.
