During the Observatory’s on-site visit to Thira, the project team met with stakeholders in direct contact with the needs of the local community and discussed the core challenges they face.
At the Episkopi Gonias Nursery School, the discussion centered on the needs of families with young children, the available infrastructure, and the operating conditions of the facility, highlighting the importance of adequate and appropriate spaces to meet the needs of children and their families.
During the meeting with the Community Center, reference was made to its role as a point of information, support, and interconnection for residents with social services and benefits, as well as the need for cooperation among different local stakeholders. In the discussion with the Mobile Mental Health Unit of the S.E. Cyclades (KLIMAKA), the conversation highlighted the importance of access to mental health services in island regions, alongside the distinct challenges posed by distances and the limited availability of specialized services.
These meetings provided a long-term understanding of both the social needs and the infrastructure and services that support the daily lives of Thira’s residents.
