Since July 2021, the Social Integration Observatory has implemented the ‘On-site field surveys on the islands of the South Aegean Region for the year 2021’, an action to investigate the living conditions of the population of the South Aegean Region and to better study the phenomena of poverty and social exclusion.
Through the recording of local problems and needs, as highlighted by interviews we conduct with:
a. elected representatives of the municipalities,
b. employees of the Social Services and Community Centres and
c. with citizens receiving assistance from the
Minimum Guaranteed Income, we seek to capture an integrated picture of the social and economic conditions at island as well as regional level.
The Social Inclusion Observatory has already successfully completed field surveys in Naxos, Kos, Santorini, Astypalaia, Karpathos, Milos and Tinos and has collected valuable data, which will be further processed and presented in an analytical report after the completion of the project in November 2021.
This week, from Monday, September 6th, to Friday, September 10th, the field investigation is ongoing in Syros, with the collaboration of the Department of Social Protection and the Community Centre of the Municipality of Syros-Ermoupolis. Staff members of Crowdpolicy, which is the contractor of the project as well as executives of the South Aegean Region, are involved as researchers in the process.
In this context, we discussed with the designated municipal councilor of the Municipality of Syros-Ermoupolis, Ms. Angeliki Printezis, about the actions and social policy implemented by the Municipality and with social workers on the field of action who discussed their social work, the daily difficulties and the good relationship and trust that citizens have developed with the services of the Municipality.
