The Social Inclusion Observatory visits Syros and Kasos

In the first ten days of September, the Observatory continued the field surveys in Syros and Kasos. Specifically, the Observatory’s Research Team, consisting of Ms. Katerina Hatzipapa (Exelixis) and Mr. Antonis Skarpelis – Ms. Konstantina Kourkoumari (Crowdpolicy), held meetings with elected officials, discussing issues of social inclusion of the vulnerable groups of the population on these islands, actions that have been implemented as well as the way local societies deal with families and people who experience serious material deprivation, among others.

In addition, the research team carried out detailed discussions with social workers of the Community Centers who provide a valuable source of feedback to the Observatory’s surveys regarding programs and social policy practices. Individual interviews were also carried out with beneficiaries of the Guaranteed Minimum Income in order to accurately record the situation as they experience it, as well as the factors that have led to these difficult living conditions.

The Observatory gathered valuable data during its surveys in Kasos and Syros and for this we would like to thank all the participants and collaborators. We would also like to inform you about the continuation of the surveys in Municipalities of the South Aegean Region throughout the rest of the month and the beginning of October, in the Dodecanese and Cyclades, the results of which will be presented during an Open Day.
