The Social Inclusion Observatory continues its field research across the Municipalities of the South Aegean for the sixth consecutive year. This year, the primary objective of the study shifts from merely mapping social needs to a more complex investigation of local variations, emerging trends, and opportunities for collaborative responses to social challenges. Within the framework of this research, a field study was conducted in the Municipality of Megisti on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, during which researcher Ms. Dimitra Tasiopoulou interviewed the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Stratos Amygdalos.
Mr. Amygdalos stated that the social group requiring the greatest support consists of certain families experiencing conditions of poverty. Concurrently, he emphasized that the Municipality’s priorities include providing care for children with learning difficulties who, to date, have not received the necessary specialized assistance—a situation that burdens both the students themselves and their parents or guardians. In conclusion, the Deputy Mayor noted that the issue of housing for individuals relocating to the island for employment, such as medical and nursing staff, educators, and other public servants, is now becoming increasingly apparent in Kastellorizo.
Additionally, an interview was conducted with the President of the Lions Club of Kastellorizo, Ms. Eva Mantikou, who stated that the primary objectives of the Club are social contribution and the promotion of volunteerism. Within the scope of its activities, the Club implements initiatives to support residents regarding health matters and awareness, alongside actions aimed at providing goods to meet the needs of both the local community and public spaces. Concurrently, it carries out programs and initiatives concerning both stray and domesticated animals.
